Continuing Competency for Dental Technology

The NSRDHDTD is working to establish a modernized quality assurance program for all of their oral health professionals. This is a key initiative and is expected to be a multi-year project.

The quality assurance programs developed by the legacy regulators that came together to form the NSRDHDTD remained in place upon amalgamation and are currently under review. These will remain in force until a new quality assurance program is developed.

Dental technologists must complete 45 continuing education credits every three years to maintain their license.

All individuals who renew a practising licence for June 1, 2025 will have a cycle start date of January 1, 2026. However, any activities completed after this CCP comes into effect on April 30, 2025, and prior to Jan 1, 2026, will count towards your initial cycle. Essentially, you will have 3.5 years in your initial CCP cycle for this first cycle only.

RDTs who obtain an initial practising licence after migration to the RHPA, are subject to the policy set by the NSRDHDTD on cycle start dates.

The Continuing Competency for RDTs Policy that continues to be in effect on May 1, 2025, is below.
